The project
Green Meme Effect is a project co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme and is BioLiving's eighth European project. Under the coordination of Verein Auxilium, a non-profit association from Austria, it has as partners Associação BioLiving, from Portugal; Meath Partnership, from Ireland; CO&SO, from Italy; S.E.A.L Cyprus, from Cyprus; and Mobilizing Expertise, from Sweden.
Given the human pressure on natural resources and its environmental and social consequences, there is an urgent need to encourage true and lasting green lifestyles, starting with behaviours that become habits over time.
Teenagers and young adults are at a stage in their lives where they are open to adopting behaviours and making choices that define their professional future as well as their social and civic life. Not only are they old enough to understand the importance of contributing to the fight against climate change, but they are also able to actively participate and take initiative, as can be seen in movements such as Fridays for Future.
However, there are still many young people who are not engaged and do not feel included in the environmental cause, so there is a need to adopt an approach that captivates them, especially marginalised young people, and empowers them to participate in sustainable initiatives that benefit their local community.
In this way, the Green Meme Effect project aims to develop materials that capture the attention of young people through micro-interventions in their physical and digital social space and direct them to sources of information and opportunities, in order to improve their environmental skills and competences and promote sustainable habits. This way, they can become real agents of change and thus achieve a long-term green meme effect.
