Renascer
Duration: September 2017 – December 2018
The project
Unfortunately, almost every year our country is plagued by forest fires due to a combination of environmental and social factors. The year of 2017 was probably one of the worst in Portugal's memory, with fires not only destroying much of our forest, but also affecting the lives of hundreds of families. These events were an alert, in the worst way, and reinforced the need to rethink the management of portuguese forests and the preservation of our natural heritage.
Thus, the Associação BioLiving and the Biology Department of the University of Aveiro, in collaboration with the Municipality of Figueira da Foz, developed a project that aims to involve and attract the youngesters and the community in general for environmental issues around our forests - the RENASCER Project.
The mission of this project is to convey the value and importance of preserving and defending our forests, to promote contact with nature and to encourage ecological responsibility in everyone by changing attitudes and behaviors towards the environment.
With the Renascer project, environmental education actions were carried out with teachers from several schools in the Municipality of Figueira da Foz, so that they could transmit the knowledge acquired to their students. Later, more than 1000 trees and acorns were distributed to sow to about 1500 students from the 30 schools involved in the project (from kindergarden to high school) to be planted in the fall/winter of 2018, by the students themselves.
